We value our traditions at NJE! They bring our students, staff, friends and family together to share experiences that help to build our relationships and a strong sense of community. Plus, we like to have fun!
Second Grade Drama--- Our second graders work very hard each year to perform a play in front of the Parent-Teacher Organization and our student body. The students memorize their lines, learn several new songs, and choreograph dance routines to show their talents.
Dr. Seuss Day Celebration--- Read Across America Day is a special time at North Jackson Elementary! Many activities are scheduled throughout the day, such as "Pounce and Read" and buddy reading between grade levels. Community partners and other special guests are also invited to read to the students and complete literacy-based projects.
8 Habits Ambassadors--- Here at North Jackson, we are always on the lookout for student’s exhibiting the 8 Habits. Each month a student is chosen from each homeroom class to represent the class as “Ambassador of the Month”. The students are recognized at the monthly PTO meeting and are treated to a special lunch. They also take a trip out into the community and learn about the services that are provided to our area residents.
Sixth Grade Promotion Ceremony--- The Sixth Grade Promotion is a student-led ceremony that celebrates the growth in leadership that has been accomplished by the sixth graders. Sashes are worn by each student that is embellished with pins representing each club or organization they have joined at North Jackson. They also receive recognition for volunteer work, donations made and service projects completed. Students write their own scripts, decorate the tables and "run the show" while the teachers sit back and enjoy watching them lead. The song, "I Was Here!" by Lady Antebellum wraps up the evening as the tears flow. It is a night to remember!
College and Career Readiness Trips--- Whether our students dream of being a high school graduate, college graduate, or something in between, our College and Career Readiness trips will certainly help them "begin with the end in mind"! By the time the students reach sixth grade, they will have taken seven different trips to help them begin planning for their futures.
United Way Day of Caring The United Way Day of Caring is a volunteer opportunity that provides our students and staff with a peek at volunteering in the community. Each year, our school participates in a variety of activities, such as visiting with the residents at NHC. We have also volunteered at area daycare facilities and read with the preschoolers. Many of our staff and students have participated each year since North Jackson opened!
Student-led Conferences--- What a great way for parents to learn about the wonderful happenings at school! Students in each grade level invite parents to view their Leadership Notebooks and explain leadership roles, academic growth and victories. Students are able to take ownership and synergize with their teachers...it's a win-win!
Sixth Grade Heads to Huntsville--- The Sixth Grade trip to the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, is a tradition that is worth waiting for! The sixth grade classes "begin with the end in mind" each year and plan fundraisers and activities that will help raise enough money to send the entire class on the fun-filled, overnight adventure. A state-of-the-art charter bus transports the group to the Nashville Science Center for the day, and then on to Hunstville for the Ultimate Field Trip experience. It is truly a trip of a lifetime for many of the students!
Veteran's Day Celebration--- Why do we celebrate Veteran's Day each November? Two simple words..."THANK YOU!" It is a special time for our students and staff to celebrate and honor those who have served and are serving in our military. Our students learn patriotic songs and dress proudly in red, white and blue. Veterans comeand eat lunch in our cafeteria and a special assembly is held in their honor. We're proud to be Americans!
